Let's be Real - Mental Health for Young Minds

School mental health

Most schools already care. What is usually missing is a shared system: one language, trained adults, lessons that build understanding, and parents who are part of the same conversation.

This page maps the four layers of school mental health and where each of our programmes fits.

1. A shared language

Staff, students and parents describe distress in the same words, so a concern travels intact from a corridor conversation to a referral form.

2. Adults who can respond

  • Notice early changes rather than waiting for crisis
  • Hold a conversation without needing to fix it
  • Lead to the right support inside or outside school
  • Protect their own mental health while doing it

3. Students who understand mental health

Six mental health literacy modules give young people the vocabulary, the science and the help-seeking habits that make early support possible.

4. Parents in the same conversation

A four-hour parent workshop, delivered as two two-hour live sessions, so home and school are not working from different scripts.

Common questions

What does school mental health actually cover?
Everything a school puts in place before, during and after a young person struggles: shared language, adult response skills, student literacy lessons, parent education and clear referral routes.
Where should a school start?
With the adults. Once staff share one way of noticing and responding, student and parent work lands on prepared ground instead of creating expectations nobody can meet.
Is this therapy or counselling?
No. We train the community around the young person. Counselling stays with your counselling team and external services; our work makes referrals earlier and better informed.
How long does it take to see a difference?
Staff confidence usually shifts within a term. Referral patterns and student help-seeking take longer, which is why we agree a small set of measures at the start.
